Raising the Next Generation of Safe, and Responsible Rifle Shooters

Message from Dad – Cody Reeves: Our family comes from a long line of men who served in the military and who were raised to hunt, so growing up around firearms is kind of a tradition in our family! I have always enjoyed shooting and early last year, I came across a Contingency X video on YouTube showcasing a Precision Rifle Series Match, and since then I have been traveling and competing hard! So, naturally my son took an interest quick!

Bonding

It’s amazing to find an interest that you and your child enjoy together! Since we started shooting together I feel our relationship has grown stronger. Ethan seems to have more structure and discipline. Also, he wants to do better in school because shooting is also a reward in our household! Shooting has truly been a blessing.

Ethan Reeves

Hi, my name is Ethan Reeves and I’m 9 years old. I live in Northern AZ with my dad. I like to shoot, hunt, fish and play sports like wrestling and playing tackle football!

Shooter Profile

When I was 5 years old my dad bought me a buckmark pistol and a 10/22 rifle. He’s been teaching me to shoot ever since then. When my dad started competing, it sounded fun and I always wanted to try! I never got to shoot a match until my dad told me about the NRL22 match and I was really happy!

My Rifle Build

My Dad built me a KIDD 10/22 in a PMACA chassis with a LUTH-AR stock! My scope is a Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 6-24x.

Favorite Part about the NRL 22 Match

Best part was going on a road trip with my Dad. We always eat good food! I liked when my dad helped me and gave me advice while I was shooting! I also enjoyed meeting all the other shooters, they were all really nice to me!

Challenges

I had a hard time standing and sitting because the rifle is a little heavy, but I still made some hits! My glasses started to fog and I had a hard time seeing, but one of the other shooters gave me a head band and I could see again! I couldn’t find a number on of the paper targets, but once I did I got 4 hits before time ran out! I had fun standing and laying down over and over!

Inspirations and Aspirations

My Dad is my Hero!!! He helps me every day with my shooting, homework, and cooks for me! He just makes my life a lot easier! He is my best friend!
